Hublot combines fire and ice in Courchevel 1850 during the launch of their “Big Bang Alps” limited editions
La Cote des Montres - January 29th, 2018

“From the piste to a gala evening, on snowshoe walks or at meals with family and friends, we hope that your Hublot Big Bang Alps will accompany you throughout the winter season. That’s why we’ve made it as versatile as possible. As changeable as the Matterhorn itself, with a different face for every photo. The Art of Fusion technology and watchmaking expertise combine at the height of fashion and comfort.”
Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot

Launched over ten years ago, Hublot’s Big Bang has become the benchmark of versatility in Swiss watchmaking. Using its unique and highly distinctive design as a starting point, Hublot has taken its Iconic model into uncharted technical and stylistic territory. In line with its motto,

“The Art of Fusion”, several new materials have been specially developed by the engineers and watchmakers at the manufacture on the shores of Lake Geneva, to be used on the Big Bang Alps. The case and bezel feature a new frosted carbon formed from an aggregate of small pieces of rock that give the illusion of granite. This material is widespread throughout the Alps, a mountain range visible from the Hublot manufacture in Nyon and home to the Matterhorn. It is the most famous Swiss mountain, and its distinctive shape, known around the world, was the inspiration for the Big Bang Alps.

Courchevel, 26th January 2018 – Yesterday, at the heart of the legendary Courchevel resort, Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, surrounded by journalists and select Hublot clients, launched two new limited editions, the “Big Bang Alps”, at an evening that combined fire and ice.

The Alps, this ancient mountain range linking Switzerland and France, today gives its name to these two limited editions of 100 pieces. The collection features two models: a men’s 45 mm diameter version and a women’s 39 mm diameter version. Both are equipped with interchangeable “One Click” straps, a system which allows the wearer to adapt the watch to suit their mood. And for those looking for something extra exclusive and especially for those who feel the chill, Hublot has developed the Cuddly Cuff: an oversized cuff which can be attached to the One Click strap as desired, in warm and attractive shearling wool.

Let’s take a look inside the Big Bang Alps: the 45 mm version is powered by the Unico, the famous Hublot calibre HUB1242 manufacture chronograph movement. It can be seen through the transparent sapphire case back, whichlike the bezel, is made from frosted carbon.

The women’s 39 mm diameter version of the Big Bang One Click Alps also features a frosted carbon case. Its bezel, made from the same materialis set with 42 sparkling diamonds totalling 1.00 carat. The black microblasted ceramic and sapphire case back is engraved with the peak of the Matterhorn. It houses a calibre HUB1710 self-winding movement with a power reserve of 50 hours.

In addition to the special Cuddly Cuff, each Hublot Big Bang Alps comes as standard with two One Click straps with titanium buckles. The perfect way to tailor your look this winter.

Winter is here and Hublot has can be seen in Courchevel. Hublot’s presence has been felt at the resort with Hublot’s partnership with the French Ski School in Courchevel 1850, that has now been running for many years. At the end of 2016 Hublot reopened their boutique on la rue du Rocher, redesigned in the style of an alpine chalet with wooden clad walls, exposed beams, warm lighting and an alpine-inspired structure, linking tradition and modernity, a respectful nod in the Hublot spirit. At the start of the season Hublot teamed up with la Folie Douce Méribel Courchevel, the iconic après- ski bar and restaurant nestled at the heart of The Three Valleys, for whom the Swiss watchmaker is now the Official Timekeeper.
