Hublot, official timekeeper of the world’s most legendary inland lake race for the 8th year
La Cote des Montres - June 18th, 2019

On the wrist or on the water at the Bol d’Or Mirabaud (BOM), Hublot is poised to keep track of the new records set at the 81st edition of the world’s largest regatta on an inland lake. This competition is famously difficult, owing to the lake itself and the variety of winds experienced on it, turning its waters from navy blue to steel grey. These two colours feature on the Classic Fusion Chronograph Bol d’Or Mirabaud 2019, in recognition that the Bol d’Or, like Hublot, is an icon of Swissness, an example of innovation, and a symbol of performance and passion.

The winds on Lake Geneva are unpredictable. From a gentle breeze to high winds, Lake Geneva is known for its thermals which can change dramatically in the course of a day’s racing, spanning all four seasons in one day. Considered to be the most important race in international sailing, the Bol d’Or Mirabaud attracts experienced sailors and amateurs alike, and the race brings together multihulls (D35, M2, Easy to Fly, etc.) monohulls, monotypes and prototypes, all driven by this same passion for water and limit-testing. A game of patience and strategy, everyone agrees that the Bol d’Or Mirabaud is the most complicated regatta of the year to win. It is a race which has become iconic.

Like an innovation lab, the race is a test which sees new sailboats tackle the waters of Lake Geneva each year. In tribute to this powerful and unpredictable lake, Hublot has combined shades of blue which are part of the Bol d’Or’s history and its fascination. This watch, made from titanium, features an elegant colourway of navy blue and steel grey. The Classic Fusion Chronograph Bol d’Or Mirabaud 2019 is the fusion of elegance and power. This self-winding chronograph is a Swiss watch designed using innovative technologies.

Measuring 45 mm in diameter and powered by the HUB 1143 movement, it offers a 42-hour power reserve – long enough to finish the race even with no wind (the slowest time on record is 31 hours and 54 minutes). It features a grey dial with sunray satin-finish and two blue chronograph counters, which are circular-grained satin-finished, at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock. It is paired with a blue rubber strap incorporating grey technical fabric with blue stitching. Available as a limited edition of 81 pieces, the Classic Fusion Chronograph Bol d’Or Mirabaud 2019 has be gifted to the winners of the Bol d’Or Challenge, the Bol de Vermeil and the ACVL-SRS Trophy : Ladycat Powered by Spindrift Racing, Raffica et Modulo 93 Matière Grise.

Founded in Switzerland in 1980, HUBLOT is defined by its innovation, which began with the highly original combination of gold and rubber. This "Art of Fusion" stems from the imagination of its visionary Chairman, Jean-Claude Biver, and has been driven forward by CEO Ricardo Guadalupe since 2012.

The release of the iconic, multi-award-winning Big Bang in 2005 paved the way for new flagship collections (Classic Fusion, Spirit of Big Bang), with complications ranging from the simple to the highly sophisticated, establishing the extraordinary DNA of the Swiss watchmaking house and ensuring its impressive growth.

Keen to preserve its traditional and cutting-edge expertise, and guided by its philosophy to “Be First, Different and Unique”, the Swiss watchmaker is consistently ahead of the curve, through its innovations in materials (scratch-resistant Magic Gold, ceramics in vibrant colours, sapphire), and the creation of Manufacture movements (Unico, Meca-10, Tourbillon).
