On the anniversary of history’s first moon landing, Buzz Aldrin has spent time with Omega, reflecting on the hours, and the watch, that made history on July 21^st, 1969.

The astronaut was the Lunar Module Pilot of Apollo 11 when it touched down on the Sea of Tranquillity exactly 53 years ago. His first steps were a remarkable achievement for humanity – and also for the Omega Speedmaster Professional on his wrist – which in that moment, became the first watch worn on the moon.

As well as recalling images of that famous day, Omega also captured a new portrait of Buzz Aldrin wearing the Speedmaster 321 (Ref. 311.30.40.30.01.001) – which houses the legendary calibre that powered every Speedmaster ever worn on the moon. From Apollo 11 right through to Apollo 17, the Calibre 321 was depended on by astronauts for its accuracy and reliability.

The Apollo 11 mission remains the most extraordinary highlight of Omega’s long heritage in space. It is an honour to commemorate that story today – and celebrate the inspirational accomplishments of Buzz Aldrin himself.

The Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch is the most famous chronograph on Earth and beyond, having been chosen by NASA in 1965 for all manned space missions. Since its earliest years, it has been a part of the greatest explorations of space, and most notably, became the first watch worn on the moon during the Apollo 11 lunar landing in 1969.

Today, the iconic Swiss watch collection features a range of choices in classic stainless steel or 18K gold. These can be worn on metal bracelets, leather straps or nylon fabric straps. The watch features an asymmetrical 42 mm case in stainless steel – and is built in the classic 4^th generation style that was worn by Apollo 11 astronauts during history’s first moon landing. Step dial
As well as featuring its three subdials, the black step dial includes domed minute and seconds chronograph hands, as well as an adjusted minute track for the new movement’s frequency.

Dot over ninety
Especially for Speedmaster aficionados and fans of historical detail, the famous dot over 90 (DON) and a dot diagonal to 70 are included on the anodised aluminium bezel ring.

New clasp
Created with a new design, the bracelet clasp features a polished Omega logo on a satin-finished cover. Beautifully refined with a width of 15 mm, it also includes two polished pushers in a new oval shape.


There are four eye-catching models in steel that make up the Speedmaster Moonwatch Master Chronometer collection. The hesalite glass models can be chosen on a nylon fabric strap, or a fully-brushed stainless steel bracelet. The sapphire crystal models can be selected on a leather strap or a stainless steel bracelet with polished and brushed links.
