It was May 1947 when the first Ferrari crossed the gates of the firm in Maranello where, since then, all the Prancing Horse cars have been produced.

A watch with a Ferrari logo on the dial needs necessarily to reflect an unique excellence. For this reason Panerai represents for Ferrari aprecious Italian know-how in terms of technological skills and creativity in watch making. For this reason in 2006 a new range of watches Ferrari engineered by Officine Panerai has been created. This project has been developed by Officine Panerai through a deep study of Ferrari, its culture and its cars in order to create, develop and guarantee the reliability of all the processes involved in every stage of the production, as well as ensuring the efficiency of the distribution process. So it is that the company’s engineers and designers have conceived a unique watch for Ferrari which interprets the unmistakable style of cars by translating them into the dimensions of a wrist watch.

The appearance of the Ferrari watches is strongly influenced by the aesthetic lines of a Ferrari, in a continuous cross-reference between the watch and the details of the engine and bodywork: the aerodynamic lines of the case are emphasised by the convex shape of the bezel and the slimness of the caseband, terminated by the geometric, well-defined lugs; the alternation of polished and brushed surfaces also enhances the quality of the work.

The winding-crown and chronographic push-pieces are distinguished by square-grid knurling which is reminiscent of certain details found in Ferrari’s dashboard. This confirms and underlines that the car is the main source of inspiration. The Ferrari watches have been conceived with high quality and reliability prerequisites, typical of best watch-making.

Qualifications distinctive of Officine Panerai standards as: cases and bracelets made of high performing technological materials such as AISI 316L stainless and anallergic steel or grade 5 titanium. In case of precious materials, only 18 kt gold or platinum are used. Impermeability is guaranteed up to 10 atmospheres, while glasses are made of sapphire crystal.

The adopted movements cover the most important functions of a sport watch collection: from solotempo with date indicator to the GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) function, from chronograph with 2 counters to the more sophisticated rattrapante chronograph, with double wheel column for a more precise adjustment of the chronographic functions. Certificated movements of undisputed reliability as in the best watch-making.

The production is divided in two collections: Granturismo, inspired by Ferrari Granturismo cars and its Prancing Horse, and Scuderia, inspired by racing cars and the shield typical of F1 cars. In both collections stand out with their sporty restraint and at the same time the sophisticated technology cars incorporated in the models presented.


The partnership between Officine Panerai and Ferrari continues after last year’s excellent results with the launch of the Ferrari engineered by Officine Panerai Collection. This year Panerai is the sponsor of the Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge, a championship with a very special atmosphere and strong links with the history of the House of Maranello. There are two different series, in Europe and North America (four events in the former and four in the latter, as well as the now traditional final event, the Ferrari World Finals), in which Ferrari and Maserati produced between ‘30s and ‘80s take part. The cars are divided into categories based on their characteristics: pre-war single-seaters, cars with drum brakes (that is, produced in the 1950s and 1960s) and cars with disc brakes (up to 1982) which compete on different starting grids.

It is significant that among the cars registered to take part in the event, five were produced between 1934 and 1939. It was during that period in Florence, not very far from Maranello, that Giuseppe Panerai created the first Radiomir model: a technically advanced watch which was the first of the series of watches made by the Panerai family for the Italian Navy.

Officine Panerai with this sponsorship confirms its desire to continue along the path it has now been following for several years, choosing as its point of reference the preservation of the brand’s tradition and history. At the same time it always presents these values in a context of advanced technology and design. In 2007, eight new models will be launched (four in the Granturismo Collection, two in the Scuderia Collection and two special editions to commemorate the 60^th anniversary of the House of Maranello), thus further enriching the Ferrari engineered by Officine Panerai range.



The Mugello Internatinal circuit will host the Ferrari World Finals, the traditional event that brings the Prancing Horse’s sporting season to a close. The event will have a clou moment with a parade of some of the most important cars in the Maranello marque’s sixty year history. Over the course of five exciting days of on-track action, the Tuscan circuit will host the final rounds of the Italian, European and North American series of the Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy, as well as the usual special races to crown the overall champions at international level for the one-make series that features the F430 car.

The magic of earlier times, that represents the history of the car, will be expressed thanks to the races in the Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge.

Sixty years have passed since the first car emerged from the halls of Maranello bearing the Ferrari name, a name which would very rapidly become a star of the first magnitude in the panorama of world sports cars. At the same time, the watches of Officine Panerai quickly came out of uniform and became part of the equipment of underwater divers responsible for clearing mines from ports and other underwater installations. After a while these instruments too would become icons of sports watchmaking, symbolic of reliability and accuracy. The two companies are remarkable examples of the application of the skills of technology, invention and design. Most of all, however, they share the genius of Italian creativity, so it is logical and even natural that the combination of their exceptional skills should bring about the birth of atruly unique association: the Ferrari engineered by Officine Panerai watches.

This is an ambitious project to which the engineers of Officine Panerai have devoted a considerable length of time. The project has not been amatter of simply restyling a few details, such as just printing a new logo on the dial of an old model. Rather it has evolved from a profound study of the cars, the culture and the traditions of the celebrated performance car maker. The materials used, the design of the bodywork, the engines and many other details have served as a source of inspiration for designing a range of models from scratch which are substantially different from the classic designs of Officine Panerai; while respecting the strong character of the original, the range has in a certain way managed to transfer to a wristwatch the sensations and emotions aroused by a Ferrari car. And as is appropriate for such exclusive creations, the distribution network for these watches has been very carefully selected.

As the name suggests, the Ferrari Scuderia Chronograph 40 mm model belongs to the Scuderia collection, identified by the yellow shield with the Italian tricolour and Prancing Horse. The case is square but with rounded sides and corners, giving it particularly aerodynamic lines which are heightened by the slightly convex bezel. It is made of stainless steel with polished and (for the bezel and edges) brushed finish, completed by solid parallelogram-shaped lugs. Water-resistant to 100 metres (although in practice the quality tests are always carried out at a pressure equivalent to greater depths) and with a diameter of 40 millimetres, the right side of the case encloses the adjusting crown and the chronograph push-pieces, thus protecting them. All of these screw down to ensure water-resistance and their rims are knurled with a square grille pattern to facilitate the grip, a design detail inspired by the dashboard controls of Ferraris. The crown itself incorporates a sophisticated touch: the logo of the car maker is engraved on the outer part, and so that the Prancing Horse always remains vertical it has a bayonet catch which ensures that the crown closes only in this position.

The black dial, against which the yellow shield of the Scuderia stands out, has an outer tachymeter scale and, closer to the centre, the minute track. The white of the numerals and the luminous hour and minutes hands contrasts with the yellow of the chronograph hand and those of the small seconds dial (at 3 o’clock) and the minute counter.

The two subsidiary dials are of titanium with a grille pattern, set off by black rings applied in relief: further details drawn from the world of Ferrari cars.

The sapphire crystal is 1.7 mm thick with anti-reflective treatment and the Ferrari Scuderia Chronograph 40 mm uses as its “engine” an automatic mechancial movement (the Panerai OP XXIII calibre) 12 lignes in diameter, which has 37 jewels and a power reserve of 42 hours. With Côtes de Genève decoration and with blued screws, details which indicate the precision of the finish, the movement is supplied with its chronometer certificate (issued by C.O.S.C., the relevant Swiss body), confirming the great precision of its timekeeping. As a final detail, the Prancing Horse is also engraved on the oscillating weight.

The Ferrari Scuderia Chronograph 40 mm is, then, a chronograph and a chronometer at the same time, but above all it is a very exclusive top-of-the-range sports model. It is supplied with a black leather strap with contrasting white sewing, the inner part being executed in yellow alligator with sewing which is also yellow. Finally, the folding personalised buckle has a polished and brushed finish, harmonising perfectly with the case.

The Prancing Horse and the Ferrari logo are distinctive marks of the Ferrari Granturismo collection of Engineered by Officine Panerai watches. This is a range of models conceived and executed with an exclusive technique and style inspired by the materials of the mechanical parts and the design of the bodywork of the cars which the celebrated House of Maranello has designed for road use but with a sporting spirit making them also qualified for competition. The Ferrari Granturismo collection is the end result of a challenging study which has put the engineers of Officine Panerai to the test, the achievement of transferring to a wristwatch the powerful sensations aroused by the cars of the Prancing Horse. In practice this represents the combination of the experience and creativity of two forward-thinking Italian companies which are at the forefront of their respective sectors.

Their vigorous design and sophisticated technology has inspired a collection of models which, while respecting the original character of Officine Panerai’s watches, has been designed from scratch and is significantly different from the traditional ranges of the maker from Florence.

With automatic winding and supplied with a chronometer certificate, the new Ferrari Granturismo Cronografo 40 mm stands out immediately with its relatively small case, 40 mm in diameter, which will be found to be comfortable every wrist, including female ones, largely as a result of the ergonomic research which formed the basis of its design.

Executed in polished stainless steel with brushed outlines, the extremely robust case of this new chronometer chronograph is four-sided with rounded corners and is water-resistant to 100 metres; in practi ce, however, the water-resistance of each individual watch is tested to significantly higher pressures, as is the case with all the watches created by Officine Panerai.

The brushed bezel encloses the sapphire crystal which is 1.7 mm thick with anti-reflective treatment, through which the sports dial is clearly legible under all conditions. The dial has a black background, the central part being worked with a square grille pattern against which the Prancing Horse and the Ferrari logo stand out distinctively. The little subsidiary dials for the continuous seconds hand (at 3 o’clock) and the minute counter (recording the minutes, up to 60, which have passed since the measurement started) are emphasised by metal rings in relief. Without traditional numbers but just with a scale of 60ths, the dial also carries an outer tachymeter scale for calculating average speeds; moving over this is the chronograph hand, red and thin in contrast with the hour and minute hands which are baton-shaped and covered with luminous material. Red too are the hands of the small seconds and the minute counter dials, the latter also having the first 15 units emphasised in red.

The square-grille pattern, another of details carried across from the world of sports cars, is also milled on the push-pieces and the crown for winding and setting the watch. The push-pieces are screw-down to ensure water-resistance during immersion, while the winding crown has a screw closure with a bayonet catch; this is a very practical device which ensures that the Prancing Horse engraved on its end is always in a vertical position once the adjustment operations have been carried out.

The “engine” of the Ferrari Granturismo Chronograph 40 mm is the automatic calibre OP XXIII, a movement with 37 jewels and a power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound. The Côtes de Genève decoration and the blued screws demonstrate the fineness of the finish, while the movement’s accuracy is certified by the chronometer certificate issued by C.O.S.C., the official Swiss testing institute.

The steel screw-in back is decorated with geometric motifs and, like the winding rotor, it is also engraved with the Prancing Horse and the inscription Engineered by Officine Panerai as the signature of the maker.

The watch is supplied with the black alligator strap with contrasting stitching, the inside part of which is of red alligator (another reference to the classic colour of the cars of Maranello); the adjustable personalised buckle is in brushed steel with polished finish.

Aname, Ferrari, and a symbol, the Prancing Horse, which immediately evoke legends not only within the privileged world of motor racing, but also in that of Granturismo cars. These are cars suitable for everyday use on the road, but which Ferrari conceived with a sporting spirit enabling them to take part in any race without special preparations.

In the wake of this legend which began 60 years ago, the Ferrari Granturismo Engineered by Officine Panerai collection was born.

This is a range of watches designed and created with an exclusive technique and style which has superbly interpreted the characteristics of excellence and the design which distinguish the cars of Maranello. It is the culmination of an ambitious project which fully engaged the technicians of the historic watch company from Florence because it was not a matter of simply restyling earlier models which already existed. On the contrary, the collection began with an in-depth study of the cars and the traditions of the famous automobile House and it has been inspired by the materials of the mechanical parts of Ferraris and by the design of their bodywork. Working from scratch, this has resulted in the creation of a range of watches substantially different from the classics of Officine Panerai, but which, while respecting their unique original character, have successfully transferred the sensations and emotions aroused by a car of the Prancing Horse to a wristwatch.

From the extraordinary combination of Ferrari and Officine Panerai’s skill, inventiveness, design and Italian creativity the Ferrari Granturismo GMT Alarm has emerged. This is a watch of clear sports character, distinguished by its indication of a second time zone and its sound signal, which is programmable as an alarm clock or as a reminder of an appointment. With its stainless steel case, square with rounded corners, and its finish which is partly polished and partly brushed, the model is 45 mm in diameter and is water-resistant to a depth of 100 metres, although it is actually tested to an even greater pressure.

The smooth, brushed bezel sets off the square-grille milled rims of the two crowns – another detail borrowed from the motoring world.

These two crowns are screw-down with a bayonet catch, to ensure that the Prancing Horse and the bell indicating the alarm function are always in a vertical position. The upper crown sets the hours, minutes and second time zone, while the other is used to wind and set the alarm function by pointing the red arrow of the alarm hand at the time required.

Beneath the robust sapphire crystal 1.9 mm thick with anti-reflective treatment, the dial is particularly legible and the Prancing Horse stands out from it in relief. Black in colour, the central part of the dial is worked with the same square-grille pattern as the milled rim of the crowns, while the scale graduated in 60ths encloses large Arabic numerals applied in relief and two window apertures. The date appears in the aperture at 3 o’clock, which is surrounded by a conical metal ring so that it stands out, while the window at 6 o’clock indicates the time in the second time zone. Also black too are the hour and minute hands, baton-shaped and covered with luminous material; by contrast, the thin continuous seconds hand is red.

The Ferrari Granturismo GMT Alarm uses as its “engine” the Panerai calibre OP XXIV, an automatic movement with 31 jewels and a power reserve of 47 hours, with classic Côtes de Genève decoration and blued screws, further elements indicating the high standard of the movement’s finish. The famous Prancing Horse is also engraved on the winding rotor and it can be seen through the sapphire crystal window in the screw back, which is decorated with a metallic grille pattern; round the edge of it the inscription Engineered by Officine Panerai is engraved, as the maker’s signature.

The watch is supplied with a black alligator strap with contrasting stitching and the inside part in red alligator, and also with an interchangeable rubber strap impressed with the Ferrari logo. Like the case, the adjustable personalised buckle is executed in brushed steel with polished details.

Identified by the reference FER00017, the Ferrari Granturismo GMT Alarm has a price of 7,900 euro. Like all the other watches of the Collection, it is sold only through a carefully selected network of retailers.
