Richard Mille applauds Scuderia Ferrari for an outstanding start to the season
- Charles Leclerc wins the Bahrain GP
- A double for the Scuderia Ferrari, with Carlos Sainz Jr. on the podium’s silver step
Following a promising pre-season test session, the results are in with a magnificent one-two finish achieved by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr., during the opening Grand Prix of the 2022 season at Bahrain’s Sakhir track.
For
Charles Leclerc, this victory came at the end of a race that perfectly exemplified control. Starting from pole position, he was able to open a gap with Max Verstappen, then to repel his fellow driver with brio, parrying repeated attacks by the reigning world champion:
“I tried to be as clever as possible and brake early for the first corner so as to be behind him when the DRS detection kicked in and it worked twice! I was able to retake first place”. Beaming after the event, the Monegasque driver was keen to highlight the work done by his team:
“They did an absolutely incredible job in designing this great car. The season has started in the best possible way: pole position, victory, best lap, one-two with Carlos. It’s everything we hoped for and more.”
An additional challenge for the teams in the 2022 season consists of new technical regulations. The return of ground effect means that the aerodynamic design of the cars must be fundamentally revised. This change should allow the cars to follow each other more closely without losing speed, and therefore facilitate more spectacular overtaking on the track.
Richard Mille is especially pleased to be associated with Ferrari for a second year, and congratulates the Scuderia Ferrari on this exceptional start to the season. The pride of seeing the Italian team at the top of Formula 1 mingles with the pride and satisfaction of having supported Charles Leclerc for a decade. Who better than the Monegasque to illustrate Richard Mille’s commitment to young drivers? As a symbol of his feelings for the brand, Charles Leclerc wears a prototype of the RM 67-02 in Quartz TPT® on his wrist, a watch both light and resistant, that can withstand the exigencies of racing.
