Alexander Zverev’s revenge

Youngest Madrid Master champion behind Rafa
La Cote des Montres - May 15th, 2018

  • 3rd Masters 1000 title
  • No. 3 in ATP ranking
  • Youngest Madrid Master champion behind Rafa
Alexander Zverev defeated Dominic Thiem, who knocked out Rafael Nadal in the quarter-final, winning 6-4, 6-4 in the Madrid Masters final. Zverev, already victorious in Munich the week before, wins the 3rd Masters 1000 of his career (after Rome and Montreal in 2017), keeping his World No. 3 ranking.

Zverev’s performance in Nadal’s homeland was perfectly mastered. The German did not concede a set during his Madrid week. For Alexander, “Rafa is still the man to beat and the big favorite for Roland Garros”. At the age of 21, Zverev together with Rafa Nadal who is world No. 2, are a strong double act in the Richard Mille family. His victory against Thiem was like a revenge match as it reduced the gap in the number of victories between the two players.

It’s in the best possible way to start his season on clay, especially with his new RM 67-02 Automatic on his wrist. After two victories in two weeks, Zverev became the youngest winner of the tournament since Rafael Nadal who won it at the age of 19.

Richard Mille wishes these two partners the best for the Masters in Rome, and perhaps a 100% Mille Final.
