In 1987, CHANEL presented its first watch creation, the Première watch, designed for women by its Artistic Director Jacques Helleu. Choosing the octagonal shape of the stopper of the N°5 perfume bottle for its case and dressing it in black lacquer and borrowing the interlaced leather and chain strap of the iconic quilted bag for its bracelet, the Première surprised the watchmaking world that until then had been governed by masculine codes.
In 2022, CHANEL brings the Première watch back to light in a version subtly revisited by Arnaud Chastaingt, Director of the Watchmaking Creation Studio.

“I am the Première watch”
I was created in 1987 by Jacques Helleu, and today, Arnaud Chastaingt has put me back in the spotlight like a muse. I do not merely record the passage of time, I tame it.
I freed myself from masculine codes to be worn on the wrists of women, right here, right now.
I am the beating heart of the instantaneous act.
I am a black-lacquered face, the smooth surface of a present which moves along without worrying about the time.
I am black and gold geometry: Refined hands, beveled glass, a set crown.
I am an icon among icons: An octagonal case inspired by the stopper of the CHANEL N°5 perfume bottle, a bracelet with a nod to the interlaced leather strap of the quilted handbag.
I am a jewelry watch which takes time to enjoy life. I am a style, whose only guiding principle is liberty. I am an eternally young first.
