Cartier Reine Makéda necklace

with the intense red ruby from Africa
When the craftsmanship matches the idea

May 1st, 2015

A 15.29-carat ruby is the beating heart of a “draperie” necklace designed with a fluidity that can make it intimate or formal, and which tempers its magnificence with a moving sensuality.

For the centre of a “draperie” necklace, Cartier has chosen a 15.29-carat ruby with a very pure crystal accompanied by two exceptional diamonds of more than three carats each. The ruby, glowing like hot embers, radiates all its heat from the centre of this supple, structural necklace, giving it a magnificent allure.

Cartier has softened the solemnity of this ceremonial jewellery with a touch of sensuality, creating a piece that is worn close to the body like a second skin; sumptuous latticework with a serene beauty.

This creation is a celebration of craftsmanship that matches the idea. From behind the perfect form, the sparkle and the opulence, a touching thought emerges... How many hours did it take the jeweller, tucked away in the workshop, to set these stones one by one, line by line, row by row? With infinite patience, a work of perfect harmony was assembled in which the appearance of the smallest defect would mean starting all over again from the beginning.

But an ideal drawing and technique on their own are not enough; the jeweller’s craftsmanship and unique personal expertise must come into play to bring a human element to the piece. Thus, it is not surprising that it has an emotional effect, and this magnificent jewellery creation made with the most precious stones, seems to beat like a heart.

It is a necklace with real character, made in the Cartier tradition of transformable jewellery: the ruby sphere choker can be detached, giving way to an array of diamonds.
