Hublot presents amfAR New York Gala
New York, NY (February 9, 2012) – Hublot, the luxury Swiss brand which brings the “Art of Fusion” to watchmaking, was proud to present the amfAR New York Gala on February 8, honoring Roberto Cavalli and others who have led the global struggle against HIV/AIDS. The black-tie benefit, which was hosted by Sarah Jessica Parker, featured special performances by Janelle Monáe and Theophilus London.
“We are excited to again join forces with amfAR in the fight against HIV/AIDS”, said Hublot Chairman Jean-Claude Biver.
“Our first amfAR men’s collection was very well received and we hope that these new women’s designs will bring us one step further in accomplishing the goal of a world without HIV/AIDS”.
To support amfAR’s goal and following the success of the men’s amfAR collection, Hublot created a second limited edition collection of timepieces for women. It features a black ceramic case, a white mother of pearl dial, and a steel bezel set with 114 circular diamonds (it comes also with a white gold bezel set with 48 baguette diamonds for the non-limited edition). It houses a self-winding chronograph movement and a white alligator strap sewn on black rubber. As a commemoration to amfAR, the watch also features the foundation’s colors and logo at the 5 o’clock mark. As with the first collection, part of the proceeds will go to support amfAR.
The evening featured a dinner, live auction, special performances, and honoree tributes. For this special occasion, Jean-Claude Biver and Hublot were pleased to announce the auction of the first timepiece of the new amfAR collection engraved with the signature of amfAR Founding Chairman Dr. Mathilde Krim, presented by Stanley Tucci and worn by Gloria Estefan.
Other special guests included Woody Allen and Soon-Yi Previn, Heidi Klum, Julianne Moore, Lindsay Lohan, Leighton Meester, Cindy Crawford, amfAR Chair Kenneth Cole, Gloria Estefan, Nina Garcia, Padma Lakshmi, Jennifer Hudson, Carol Alt, Elizabeth Hurley, Miss Universe Leslie Lopes and more.
Hublot made its name 30 years ago when it became the first Swiss watch luxury brand to fuse precious metals with functional rubber, sparking a revolution for material innovation and aesthetics. In 2004, Mr. Jean-Claude Biver gave Hublot a great new boost and revolutionized watchmaking with the creation of the “Big Bang”, which marked the start of the spectacular success of the brand. In just five years Hublot has become one of the most sought-out high-end watch brands with some of its timepieces making watch history, such as the One Million Dollar Big Bang, All Black Big Bang and Mag Bang watches. In 2008 Hublot was bought by the LVMH group with Jean-Claude Biver as CEO and leading the company’s guiding principle of "Fusion," which combines unusual materials such as ceramic, tantalum, magnesium and titanium with a modern version of Hublot’s rubber strap.
