On Friday June 29^th 2007 Ham Polo Club played host to the Inaugural Jaeger-LeCoultre Charity Cup. At this entirely new event two legends of the polo world, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso and Adolfo Cambiaso, unified to raise much needed funds for the children’s charity ‘Ideas del Sur’.

The fund-raising mechanism was two-pronged, with a substantial auction followed by an exhibition match with Cambiaso.

An auction was held with fantastic polo prizes available and all proceeds going to ‘Ideas del Sur’.

1^st prize, a unique Adolfo Cambiaso edition Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Squadra Hometime went to one Clive Reid, one of the match ‘patrons’.

Jaeger-LeCoultre ambassador Clare Milford Haven bid and won 6 chukkas with Cambiaso in Argentina and a match pony

Other prizes included one of Cambiaso’s handmade blue and white helmets, of which there are only three in the world. There was also a private lesson with him and tickets for the Argentinean open, as well as a signed polo stick and further tickets to the Jaeger-LeCoultre Diamond Cup in Argentina.

Adolfo Cambiaso, the world’s greatest player, competed in a match that included accomplished UK players Jodie and Jack Kidd, as well as ‘patrons’ who made charitable donations in order to play in a match with the master of the game.

The match was a hard fought and fast moving battle between a Jaeger-LeCoultre white and Jaeger-LeCoultre black team.

A close run match, it finished with a 7 – 6 victory to Cambiaso Jaeger-LeCoultre white team.

The match and auction together helped to raise a sum of approximately £60,000 for ‘Ideas del Sur’

Adolfo Cambiaso has been at the forefront of polo for the majority of his career. His rise to 10-goal stardom was rapid and he currently dominates the sport as captain of the La Dolfina team. Jaeger LeCoultre partnered with Cambiaso for the Reverso Squadra range as he embodies the philosophy of the range in terms of design and performance.

He now appears as a face of Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Squadra in a new advertising campaign for 2007

For the past 5 years, Clare Mountbatten, Marchioness of Milford Haven has also been a Jaeger-LeCoultre ambassador. An enthusiastic and active member of the UK polo community, she attended the event in support of Jaeger-LeCoultre and their first ever event in UK polo calendar.

She has displayed her skills in many countries including England, Spain, Italy, Argentina and Chile. An enthusiastic and active member of the Cowdray Park polo club, she is one of the increasing women distinguishing themselves in this fascinating and thrilling sport.

Adolfo Cambiaso (h) (Junior), is an Argentine polo player, considered by many to be the best player in the world, and one of the few players with a 10-goal handicap, which he reached at the record age of 17.

Because his father bears the same name, Adolfo Junior is often referred to as Adolfito.

Adolfito was born in Cañuelas, Buenos Aires Province on April 14, 1975. He started playing at a very young age, and at only 12 years old, he got his handicap moved to 1-Goal. A year later, with a 3-goal handicap, he won the Eduardo Heguy Cup with the La Martina team, playing with his father Adolfo.

1992 brought another series of championships and cups, but the most important event is that he started playing the Abierto Argentino de Palermo with the Ellerstina team. On his first match, against Los Indios, Adolfo scored 16 times to set the record of goals in one match.

He received several distinctions, among them the Olimpia de Plata award as the most important Argentine polo player of 1997, best player at the final of the Abierto Argentino 1997, and the record of 67 goals, in the 1998 Abierto Argentino. He has also been playing for the Argentine national team since 2002.

In 2005, with his newly formed La Dolfina team, he again won the coveted 'Abierto Argentino' at Palermo, triumphing over the previously unbeaten Ellerstina team. The final score, standing at 20-19, represented the highest scoring Abierto ever, with Cambiaso scoring 15 of his teams 20 goals, including the golden goal in extra time.

Today, at age 31 he has already won a total of 14 Grand Slam Titles such as the Argentine Open and US Open, both 5 times, as well as the British Open. To date, he has already earned a total of 24 Polo Masters Cup titles, which includes 6 Queen’s Cup and 6 Prince of Wales Trophy victories.

Argentina, United States, UK, Switzerland and Spain are the outstanding cities in which Adolfo plays fervently.

Among his horses, the most notable have been Lili, Ilusión, Sospechosa, La Osa, and his favourite; Colibrí.
