Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer is adding new talent to its portfolio of outstanding athlete ambassadors with the signing of track and field prodigy and Team USA Olympian hopeful, Sydney McLaughlin.
TAG Heuer is proud to announce American sprinter and hurdler Sydney McLaughlin as brand ambassador. This new partnership confirms the watchmaker’s commitment to speed and precision sports and its support of exceptional athletes who exemplify the
“Don’t crack under pressure” brand motto.
21-year-old Sydney McLaughlin is a record-breaking sprinter and hurdler and an inspiration on and off the track. In 2016, she was part of the US Olympic team at age 16 for the Rio Summer Olympics. She made history as the youngest US Olympian to compete in track and field since 1972, and set a junior world record in the 400 m hurdles at the Olympic team trials.
At the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha, McLaughlin won gold in the 400 m relay and silver in the 400 m hurdles, breaking the record for the third fastest time in history.
The track and field prodigy displayed her winning mindset even before launching her pro career, not losing a high school race – indoor or outdoor – since 14 June 2014, being named the 2015–16 and 2016–17 Gatorade Girls National High School Track and Field Athlete of the Year, and shattering records while competing for the University of Kentucky.
Just a few weeks ago, Sydney broke yet another milestone for a sprinter: she became the first woman in history to post a subsecond time for the 100 m hurdles, a subsecond mark for the 200 m and a subsecond run in the 400 m.
Sydney is also a committed advocate, using her voice and platform to support issues she is passionate about, such as anti-bullying for example.
“know that the mark she will leave on this world will be so much bigger than records and medals”, wrote fellow Olympic sprinter
Allyson Felix about Sydney for the 2021 TIME100 Next list, recognising emerging leaders who are shaping the future.
These outstanding achievements have paved the way for McLaughlin’s second Olympic challenge as a member of Team USA. She will head to the trials in Oregon at the end of June in the hopes of making the selection for the Tokyo games this summer.
“We are proud to welcome Sydney to the TAG Heuer family”, says
Frédéric Arnault, CEO of TAG Heuer. “As one of the fastest women of all time, she is a force to be reckoned with, and her influence reaches far beyond her sport. We look forward to supporting her on her Olympic journey and in the years to come, as she continues to defy the limits of speed and precision, an ambition we share at TAG Heuer.”
“I’m very excited about this new partnership with TAG Heuer and to be in such great company amongst their list of ambassadors”, adds
McLaughlin. “Our shared passion for high performance, mental strength and the “Don’t crack under pressure” spirit made this a natural and authentic match. My TAG Heuer Connected is already my everyday companion, in training and off the track.” “Don’t Crack Under Pressure”
