A chic, sporty and technical watch
La Cote des Montres - March 18th, 2015

Rolex is introducing a new black and 18ct everose gold version of its nautical Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master, fitted exclusively with the innovative Oysterflex bracelet developed and patented by Rolex. This technical bracelet combines in a singular way the robustness and reliability of a metal bracelet with the flexibility, comfort and aesthetics of an elastomer strap. at its core lies a superelastic metal blade overmoulded with high-performance black elastomer.

Supple and robust

This new Yacht-Master is offered in two sizes: 40 mm and a new 37 mm diameter. Its Oyster case in 18ct Everose gold includes a rotatable bezel fitted with a new Cerachrom insert in black ceramic with polished raised numerals on a matt background. This finish underscores the similar contrast between the polished 18ct Everose gold watch case and the matt black of the Oysterflex bracelet, dial and Cerachrom insert.

New Oysterflex Bracelet

The Yacht-Master’s new Oysterf lex bracelet, developed and patented by Rolex, offers a sporty alternative to metal bracelets without comprom- ising robustness, waterproofness or reliability. Aesthetically and in suppleness and comfort, it resembles a rubber strap, while its resistance is comparable to that of a metal bracelet. The bracelet attaches to the watch case and the Oysterlock safety clasp by a flexible titanium and nickel alloy metal blade. The blade is overmoulded with high- performance black elastomer which is particularly resistant to environmental effects, very durable and perfectly inert for the wearer of the watch. For enhanced comfort, the inside of the Oysterflex bracelet is equipped with a patented longitudinal cushion system that stabilizes the watch on the wrist. The bracelet is fitted with an 18ct Everose gold Oysterlock safety clasp that prevents accidental opening.

Cerachrom Bezel And Black Dial

The new Cerachrom insert in black ceramic fitted in the rotatable bezel is true to the Yacht-Master’s identity. The raised numerals and graduations with a highly polished finish stand out clearly against a matt background, allowing the wearer to easily read elapsed times of up to 60 minutes. The matching black dial – a first for this model – contrasts sharply with the broad Chromalight hands and hour markers filled with a luminescent material emitting a long-lasting blue glow. This display offers exceptional legibility both in the daylight and in the dark.

The Oyster Case, Symbol Of Waterproofness

The Yacht-Master’s Oyster case, guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet), is a paragon of robustness, proportion and elegance. The middle case is crafted from a solid block of 18ct Everose gold, cast by Rolex in its own foundry. Its fluted case back and the winding crown – fitted with the Triplock triple waterproofness system – screw down securely against the case. The crown guard forms an integral part of the middle case. The crystal, with a Cyclops lens at 3 o’clock for easy reading of the date, is made of virtually scratchproof sapphire. The waterproof Oyster case provides optimal protection for the high-precision movement.

Calibres 3135 and 2236

The new 40 mm Yacht-Master is equipped with calibre 3135 and the 37 mm version with calibre 2236, two self-winding mechanical movements entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Like all Rolex Perpetual movements, 3135 and 2236 are certified Swiss chronometers, a designation reserved for high-precision watches that have passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) tests. Their architecture ensures peerless precision and reliability. In calibre 3135, the oscillator – the true heart of the watch – has a blue Parachrom hairspring patented and manufactured by Rolex in an exclusive alloy. Calibre 2236 is fitted with the new Rolex- developed Syloxi hairspring in silicon introduced in 2014, which offers exceptional chronometric performance. Insensitive to magnetic interferences, both hairsprings offer great stability in the face of temperature variations and remain up to 10 times more precise than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks.
